Girls are often assumed to be always infatuated with shoes, but I break that stereotype for sure. I have one pair of shoes for running/gym/athletic activities, a pair for the lab, a casual pair for walking and everyday wear, and a pair of nice flats for work. My sister’s shoe collection takes up a shelf and a half—and that’s not including her flip flops! (I have to be fair on the matter and admit that I do borrow her flip flops from time to time…)
But the shoes I have been using for my athletic use are starting to wear out on me. I can’t blame them since I wear them at least once a day. They protected my feet for about a year and a half now, and looking back, I’m surprised they got me to the finish line of my first half!
With the fall running season coming up, and the Nike Women’s Half on the running horizon, I knew it was time to splurge on a pair of running shoes to be used ONLY for running. As a See Jane Run Ambassador, I was fortunate to receive a 30% off coupon to be used towards anything in their stores or online—yes, it was the perfect excuse to get some running shoes!
I’ve had my eyes on Mizunos and Brooks ever since “officially” entering the running world last year. The colors, styles, and logos caught my eyes while perusing through Runner’s World or Competitior. On the See Jane Run website, I was tempted by those fancy-schmancy Newtons (maybe someday when I’m no longer a poor student and have a comfortable job stabilized…) and Buzz Lightyear-eqsue Nike’s, but after narrowing down my choices by price and available size, I chose to purchase the Brooks PureFlow 2 in Diva Pink and Black.
Here’s the Brooks description of it:
Like peanut butter and jelly or water and energy gels, the lightweight construction and lush cushioning of the PureFlow 2 are a perfect match. The key to blending the two is engineering comfort features in a lean way like a shaped BioMoGo DNA midsole that gives your feet a cushy feel without added materials. It’s a match your feet will hunger for.
Prior to opening the box, I was admiring the doodle sketch work outside of the box!
As for the technicalities, they are…
• BioMoGo DNA
• IDEAL Heel
• Toe Flex
• Nav Band
• Anatomical Last
Don’t ask me what that means though. The only thing I can say about these shoes is that they’re light, fitting, and very cute on.
Here’s a look at the heel:
The first run I took them was around 4 miles, and for the first mile, it almost felt like I had suction cups underneath my feet? Haha, but that feeling did wear off. I did end up running 9:30/mi in them, which has been my fastest pace in a long while…
They do say that these shoes are good for 250-300 miles, so I won’t be wearing these shoes out for every single run. Perhaps they’ll be best for 10ks or less, or my shorter (and want-to-be-faster) runs.
What is your favorite running shoe?
